Just south of its wealthy neighbour of St Germain, Montparnasse is a very lively district, once home to political exiles such as Lenin and Trotsky it also used to be home to a very bohemian lifestyle, some of which is still in evidence today. Here you will find a wealth of local bars and restaurants in this young vibrant area.
While there is a superb choice of mid-range 3* - 4* small hotels in this area, there are one or two deluxe properties for instance Le Meridien Montparnasse with 953 rooms over 25 floors.
To one side of Place d’Italie is the hectic Chinatown with a vast array of restaurants and speciality supermarkets, while on the other is the area of Butte aux Cailles with its quiet narrow cobbled streets and intimate bistros. The Botanical Garden, Natural History Museum and National Library are also located in this district.
