Located on the banks of the Seine opposite the Trocadero and probably the most photographed image in Paris, the Eiffel Tower was originally built for the 1900 World Fair and has remained a Paris icon ever since. For the energetic there are stairs up to the 1st and 2nd levels, and the top level is only accessible by lift!
French hotel group Accor have their Libertel 3 Star, and Novotel 4 star brands in this area, both of which offer excellent value for money.
Also built for the World Fair, the Gare d’Orsay originally provided rail services to South Western France. After closure the station was used for many purposes until its most recent redevelopment and re-opening as the Musee d’Orsay in 1986. The most famous artists are to be found here among them Degas, Monet and Renoir. This is a quieter area with a range of local bars and restaurants but benefiting from easy access to the rest of the city.
