The Hilton Amsterdam is an ideal location for both the business and leisure traveller situated in one of the most exclusive areas in the city - indeed in the Netherlands. The hotel has in its neighbourhood the most exclusive shopping streets in Amsterdam and the commercial and financial center of the city are closeby. The hotel borders on a canal and overlooks its own garden and Marina which is filled in the summer with beautiful antique wooden boats. The Hilton Amsterdam contains the John & Yoko Suite - scene of the world famous Bed-in for Peace and arguably the most famous hotel room in the world. The Hilton Amsterdam opened in 1962, the first international Hilton Hotel in Europe and the first international hotel in The Netherlands. Designed in 1958 by the Dutch architect Maaskant, its structure continued along the same lines of Berlage's earlier ideas. The hotels characteristic V-shape is significant as it shows where the two main avenues of Amsterdam meet, the Apollolaan and the Minervalaan. The Hilton Amsterdam is located in the South of Amsterdam in Het Apollokwartier, the commercial and fashionable heart of the city. A 15 minute drive from Schiphol Airport and 5 minute drive from the downtown area. Exclusive shopping areas, museums, galleries and some of the citys most fashionable restaurants, bars and nightlife surrounds the hotel. In 1998 the hotel was totally rebuilt. All guest rooms now have air-conditioning, fire sprinkler systems and ISDN lines. The hotel has 271 deluxe contemporary rooms. The Meeting and Convention Centre is fitted with state of the art facilities, including a fully equipped Business Centre, which can accommodate small and large groups up to 1000 people. Robertos Restaurant, Half Moon Lounge, Issimo Esspresso Bar, Garden Terrace and the Harbour Cafe are unique locations to relax. In addition the Hotel has its own Marina with authentic Dutch canal boats. The Health & Fitness Club is one of the largest and best equipped in Amsterdam. The hotel also has its own Private Parking lot, at a charge of 24 Euros per day.
